It is this time of the year again when parents and guardians are busy looking for money to get their children registered for national examinations. Some believe that educating children is the best investment because when they get old their children will take care of them financially and materially. Poor parents who are unable to educate their children foresee their future as a failure. They become hopeless. This week I received several phone calls from poor Christian parents requesting if I could assist them with examination fees for their children. It is unfortunate that I could not assist all of them, but I was able to help 3 children. One of the children is a son to blind parents who even struggle to get daily food. I just pray for his success in his final examination and be able to get a better job and support the whole family.
This month we experienced natural disaster in some places in Zimbabwe. The Cyclone Idai claimed several innocent souls and livestock. Homes and properties were destroyed leaving the survivals homeless. I have learnt that people can become homeless at any time regardless of mansions they own. Some people who had magnificent buildings are now living in tents. It is a painful situation! When my child, Obey heard that the floods destroyed people and properties, he said to me, “Dad, at Sunday school we were taught that God would never destroy people with flood, why has He destroyed people in Chimanimani with flood?” He seemed to get confused and worried until I clearly explained to him. Anyway, we are safe from Cyclone Idai and we are so thankful for God’s protection. The Government is asking for donations of clothes, toiletries and food for our brothers and sisters who survived from the floods. As a family we donated a few clothes through a School where Chilengwa is learning. We hope it will make a difference.
