Co-workers in Christ
We have a Church in Jambezi District which was planted by Hwange Church under the leadership of pastor John Sandu. When Mr. Stephen Moyo got pension from National Railways of Zimbabwe became a full-time pastor there. People in Jambezi are Nambya speaking people. During the Sunday service, we interpreted Tonga into the local language so that we could well understand each other. The whole Sunday service was so inspiring. Indeed, it was a spirit-led service. The brothers and sisters were so motivated and encouraged in spirit. They requested us to make periodical visits. Jambezi Church is a little bit unique from other Churches. Most of its members are elderly people. Several women use walking sticks (cans). I guess most of them are widows. They really love and trust the Lord. One old woman stood up in front of the congregation thanking God how He is protecting her in hardships, difficulties and poverty. She is short-sighted because of old age. After thanking God’s protection, she sang a common chorus. She forgot most of the stanzas. She did not give up. She would start again. I could see that the spirit was willing but the flesh..
Family.
While we were in the States, we used to fellowship with the Valley Christian Church in Wilsonville. The Church had a community garden under the management of brother Jim Fitch. My family was given a plot where we planted tomatoes, onions, potatoes and lettuce. Since then we developed great interest in gardening. In front of our yard we have a garden where we have planted vegetables, okra, onions, cucumbers and tomatoes. My neighbors are so surprised to see small yellow tomatoes. They normally see red tomatoes. They stop by and ask us where we got the seeds. They are also curious to know whether the tomatoes are tasty or not. We have given out the tomatoes to most of our neighbors and have greatly appreciated them. We are glad to share something unique to our neighbors.
Last week, my wife, Ellina and Chilengwa (daughter) had malaria and sore throat. They had hard time swallowing food. I am glad they are now recovering.
May you pray for upcoming Leadership Seminar on the 6th -13th of October. I will be having the Pastors, Elders, Deacons and their wives. There will be ordination of Elders and Deacons as well.
Those sending their donations to Tonga Ministries, Jill Hartzell or to Charles Kamilos may continue to do so until we come up with one source. I pray this will be done in love and in peace.
Your co-worker
Alec.
